Comcast Adds X1 Enhancements

Comcast introduced a batch of updates for X1, including a shuffle feature for music videos that the MSO had been testing.

That feature “is graduating from Comcast Labs and becoming an official X1 feature,” Peter Nush, vice president, product management at Comcast, said in this blog post about the latest X1 updates. That option is now offered on all music artist pages and in X1’s Kids Zone.

Comcast, he added, is also adding DVR-recorded shows to the shuffle feature in Kids Zone, a feature introduced last year that spotlights family-friendly content reviewed by Common Sense Media.

Among other additions, new X1 subs can now select their preferred language when service is activated, and Comcast has added a “New X1 Tips” section to learn more about the features of the platform.

Additionally, X1 users who use the platform’s Sports Guide view can pick their favorite teams and have current and upcoming games appear in a row across the TV screen.

Nush noted that 40% of X1’s Spots App users mark at least one team as a favorite.

About 30% of Comcast’s video base is on the X1 platform.

Update:Comcast has since pushed that to 35%, and expects to push that to 50% this year, Comcast CEO and chairman Brian Roberts said at the recentMorgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference in San Francisco, according to this transcript.
