CMT Salutes Elvis
By MCN Staff published
Country Music Television will use Presidents' Day (Monday, Feb. 19) to salute
Elvis Presley with a marathon of seven Elvis specials that will run and rerun
throughout the holiday.
CMT vice president of music and talent Chris Parr explained the move by
saying in a statement Tuesday, 'Elvis Presley is such a musical icon in all
genres of music.' Presley was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame
in 1998, he pointed out.
The specials due on Monday -- including several that have run on VH1 recently
-- are: the two-part Elvis: The Great Performances, Aloha from
Hawaii, One Night with You, Elvis: '68 Comeback Special,
Elvis: From the Waist Up and Ed Sullivan Classics.
CMT, which had previously been music-video-driven, is now a sister network to
VH1 since Viacom Inc. acquired CBS Corp.
