Clearleap Names Carlucci CTO
Clearleap, a provider of Web-based video-on-demand systems, has hired former Time Warner Cable engineering executive John Carlucci as its newly appointed chief technology officer.
Most recently, Carlucci was co-founder and CTO of FreedTV Systems, a startup developing a system to integrate TV viewing with social networks. At Time Warner Cable, he served as chief network architect where he worked on the MSO's Start Over service and switched digital video deployments.
"There are very few people in the TV industry who possess John's depth and breadth of technical expertise, vision, reputation and experience -- and certainly none better suited to help Clearleap continue its rapid growth," Clearleap co-founder and CEO Braxton Jarratt said in a statement.
Carlucci also has served as chief architect at BigBand Networks, vice president of engineering at downloadable conditional access venture PolyCipher, and in technical leadership positions at Divicom/Harmonic and Sony's advanced video technology center.
Clearleap is based in Duluth, Ga., with offices in New York City and San Francisco and data centers in New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Its customers include Verizon FiOS TV, Comcast's Houston division, Mediacom Communications and Bresnan Communications.
Earlier this month the company announced it had secured $4.5 million in funding from existing investors Noro-Mosely Partners, Trinity Ventures and Silicon Valley Bank, bringing it to $16.8 million raised to date.
