Charter Buys Windjammer Systems

Charter Communications said it has reached an agreement to purchase systems with about 17,000 customers from Windjammer Communications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The Windjammer systems are located in Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Payne and Cullman, Ala., near existing Charter properties in those states. Charter said it expects to close the acquisition in the third quarter.
"These properties have a strong geographic link with the communities Charter has served in Alabama and Georgia for many years, and this transaction is very much aligned with our strategy of enhancing core system clusters," said Charter president, operations Steve Apodaca in a statement.
Windjammer was formed in 2008 and includes Boston private equity company MAST Capital and Jupiter, Fla.-based small cable operator Communications Construction Services.
