Casa Systems Notches Another CCAP Win

Casa Systems’ hot streak continued this week with a win at Telenet, which picked the vendor’s C100G platform for its migration to the Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP), a low-power, super-dense  architecture that combines the functions of the cable modem termination system and the edge QAM.

Financial terms were not announced, but Telenet, the largest cable operator in Belgium, will migrate its existing consumer and businesses services off of existing competing CMTS platforms to the C100G. Telenet has historically used CMTS gear from Cisco Systems and Motorola (now part of Arris).

"Telenet had gone through a very exhaustive vendor evaluation before selecting Casa System's C100G," said Bart Bleyen, director engineering of Telenet said in a statement, noting that the MSO is seeing a jump in VOD requests.

The DOCSIS 3.0-qualified C100G is outfitted with the CCAP-ready DS8x96 module, which 96 channels per port including 32 channels of narrowcast and 64 channels of broadcast -- for a total of 768 channels per module. Earlier this year,  Casa introduced an upstream module for its C100G and C10G CMTSs that supports a wider upstream path of 5 MHz to 100 MHz, putting MSOs in position to support DOCSIS 3.1, a new CableLabs spec that is targeting capacities of 10 Gbps downstream and at least 1 Gbps in the upstream.

The latest deal comes as Casa continues to solidify itself as the third-largest supplier of CMTS gear, a spot previously held by Motorola. According to Infonetics Research’s last cable access report, Casa’s share of the CMTS/CCAP revenues in the period rose to 23%, up from the 4% it pulled in during the previous quarter. Cisco and Arris remain the market leaders.
