Canoe Hires General Counsel From CableLabs

Canoe Ventures, the advanced-advertising joint venture of the six biggest U.S. cable operators, announced that it has hired former CableLabs lawyer Michael Davis as general counsel.

At CableLabs, Davis was responsible for providing legal and business counseling on several development projects including advanced advertising and Tru2Way interactive TV technology.

Prior to CableLabs, Davis negotiated software licensing agreements for Lucent Technologies and worked at EchoStar Communications, where he directed procurement, supply chain and various international and domestic product development activities.

As previously reported by Multichannel News, Canoe also on Thursday officially announced the appointment of Vicki Lins, formerly Comcast Spotlight senior vice president of marketing and communications, as chief marketing officer; and Arthur Orduña, formerly Advance/Newhouse Communications senior vice president of product and policy, as chief technology officer.

“I am excited to begin building my team with Michael, Vicki and Arthur in key leadership positions,” Canoe CEO David Verklin said in a statement. “Their expertise in legal, marketing and technology issues will be a valuable asset to this company as we guide the industry into the future of television, changing the way consumers view it and advertisers use it.”

Based in New York, Canoe is owned by Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Cablevision Systems and Bright House Networks. The venture’s mission is to provide interactive and targeted TV advertising services, as well as measurement metrics, across multiple MSOs and cable networks.
