Cablevision IDs 1 Billion Calls On TV

Saving customers untold hours of getting up from the sofa to see who’s calling during primetime hours, Cablevision Systems has served up 1 billion caller ID on the TV messages to triple-play subscribers since launching the service last November.

The operator had 1.6 million Optimum Voice subscribers as of Dec. 31, representing more than one-third of the homes passed in Cablevision’s market, and 2.6 million iO TV digital cable customers.

Cablevision noted that the caller ID on the TV service – available at no extra charge to its video, voice and data subscribers – has delivered an average of 9 million messages per day.

The caller ID on TV displays incoming call information whenever a customer is watching live TV or viewing recorded programming on their Cablevision digital video recorder. The information remains on-screen for about 7 seconds, allowing customers to decide if they want to take the call while continuing to watch television.

Time Warner Cable also offers the feature in various markets, and has been rolling it out to New York-area subscribers in the past few months.
