Cisco Systems said it is providing CableLabs with “core infrastructure” and pieces from its Videoscape platform to power a new “IPTV Innovations Lab” to be based in Louisville, Colo.
The lab will provide MSO members with a location to conduct IP video testing and to help speed their all-IP video transitions, the organizations said.
Cisco said it’s providing the lab with core infrastructure, including routing equipment, switching, cable modem termination systems and edge QAMs, storage networks and elements from Videoscape, Cisco’s multi-screen video platform for service providers.
CableLabs said it will extend the capabilities of the IPTV Innovations Lab to its recently opened Sunnyvale, Calif., facility using a high-capacity, multi-gigabyte link that connects the Louisville and Silicon Valley locations. CableLabs also plans to use the capabilities of the lab to test vendor integrations between components of an all-IP infrastructure, test CableLabs specs in a multi-vendor environment, and to support other initiatives, including client-side app development.

This new IPTV Innovations Lab delivers on that commitment while helping our service provider members and technology suppliers refine their focus, improve overall time to market of new products and services, and share best practices,” said CableLabs chief R&D officer Tom Lookabaugh, in a statement.
CableLabs and Cisco made the announcement in concert with this week’s CableLabs Winter Conference in Atlanta, a private event that will feature tech sessions and vendor demos.
