Cable-Tec Expo: CableLabs Taps S3 Group For ITV Testing

CableLabs is using S3 Group's StormTest Development Center to support automated testing of EBIF-based interactive TV applications at its Louisville, Colo., headquarters.

The R&D consortium has integrated StormTest with its Enhanced TV Activity Reporting System (EARS), which monitors interactive TV streams at a cable operator's headend. The combination allows CableLabs to rapidly test Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) applications.

S3 Group has also installed a StormTest evaluation system at CableLabs in order to help automate User Agent test cases.

"CableLabs sets the benchmark for cable specifications in North America and to have them make use of our StormTest family for automated testing of EBIF applications is a true testament to the value of this technology," S3 Group director of product marketing Ian Harris said.

S3 Group's StormTest is in use at more than 20 digital TV operators and vendors worldwide. Founded in 1986, the company is based in Dublin, Ireland, with development centers in the U.S., Czech Republic, Poland and Portugal.
