BigBand Picks up ADC's CMTS Business
BigBand Networks Inc. announced that it is buying ADC Telecommunications Inc.’s Internet-protocol cable business, which includes ADC’s “Cuda” cable-modem-termination-system product line.
BigBand is buying the Cuda and FastFlow provisioning-product lines for an undisclosed price, although ADC will become a minority interest holder in BigBand as part of the deal.
ADC had competed in that space with Cisco Systems Inc., Motorola Inc., Arris Group Inc. and Terayon Communication Systems Inc., among others. The company will retain its “Homeworx” cable-telephony platform.
"ADC's high-speed-data and provisioning products, and the outstanding people behind them, possess similar strengths to BigBand Networks' product and people," BigBand cofounder and CEO Amir Bassan-Eskenazi said.
ADC said it will remain in the cable business with its connectivity gear.
"ADC is focused on helping cable operators with our high-performing connectivity products and system-integration services, which are ADC's core strengths," CEO Bob Switz said in a prepared statement.
