Following an initial foray into Los Angeles late last year, AT&T said it has expanded the reach of its fiber-based “GigaPower” platform to additional parts of the metro area spanning “tens of thousands of locations.”
The expansion, covering single family homes, apartments and small businesses, covers portions of Eastvale, Irvine, Los Angeles, and Orange County.
AT&T said it expects to triple availability of GigaPower in the area by the end of 2016, including Arcadia and Glendale.
In L.A., GigaPower’s standalone 1-Gig broadband service starts at $110 per month, or 300 Mbps starting at $80 per month, for customers on a “Premier” plan that requires participation in AT&T Internet Preferences, its targeted Web advertising program. Customers can also bolt on TV service from DirecTV or U-verse, and bundle in phone service.
AT&T said it has invested more than $2 billion in its L.A.-area wireless and wireline networks from 2012 to 2014.
AT&T noted that GigaPower is now offered in 20 metros (with plans to add another 36 metro areas), and ended 2015 with access to north of 1 million locations, a number that it intends to double by the end of the year. AT&T has not announced how many subscribers are on its GigaPower platform.
