All Systems Go for ‘HD-PRIME’ Bird Launch

The satellite that will support SES Americom Inc.’s "HD-PRIME-America's Cable Neighborhood" service is set for its Feb. 5 liftoff, the company said Monday.

SES’ Americom-10 bird "has been fully integrated into the fairing of the ‘AtlasIIAS’ launch vehicle," SES said.

The "A2100-model" spacecraft was built by Lockheed Martin Corp.’s Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems, and it is being launched by International Launch Services into its operating orbital position of 135 degrees west longitude.

Programmers on board so far for HD-PRIME include Viacom Inc., A&E Television Networks, C-SPAN, Court TV, Crown Media Holdings Inc., Discovery Communications Inc., E! Networks, In Demand, Lifetime Entertainment Services, NBC, QVC Inc., Scripps Networks and The Weather Channel.

AMC-10 is scheduled for full-service operation by early May.
