Comcast Puts VOD On The Map

As part of the run-up to Comcast’s second-annual Xfinity Watchathon Week (March 31-April 6), the MSO has crunched some data and applied it to a map showing which shows were the top on-demand performers on a city-by-city basis.

While The Blacklist was tops in Seattle during its debut season, viewers in Salt Lake City flocked to Duck Dynasty, and Miami was big on The Bad Girls Club. Giving a nod to geographic linkages to individual shows and series, The City of Brotherly Love loved it some Boardwalk Empire, while Chicago PD apparently blew away viewers in The Windy City.

A small version of the map is embedded here, but you can check out a more legible rendition here.

While the map offers an interesting visual of VOD trends ahead of this year’s cross-platform Watchathon, the MSO has its work cut out for it, if the plan is to outpace its first Watchathon, which broke several VOD usage records for the MSO last year.

And Comcast won’t be the only pay-TV provider looking to push the VOD needle in the weeks ahead. Verizon Communications' next “Free On Demand Marathon,” a set-top-focused affair, is set to run April 1-7.
