WWOR-TV Remains On Yankees Roster

New York Yankees’ over-the-air telecasts will remain on WWOR-TV for the next three seasons.

Yankees Entertainment & Sports Network, which controls the local TV and cable rights to the ballclub, and WWOR-TV have reached a contract extension that will keep 21 Bronx Bombers games per season on My9 during the 2009, 2010 and 2011 Major League Baseball campaigns.

WWOR, which has been televising Yankees games since 2005, will present the games in high-definition.

Under the deal, terms of which were not disclosed, YES will continue to handle the advertising inventory on the games running on WWOR and have the right to encore the contests that debut on the station.

“This extension provides continuity for Yankees fans,” said Michael Wach, executive vice president, ad sales at YES, in a statement. “We look forward to extending our My9 partnership, especially as the Yankees unveil the new Yankee Stadium in 2009.”

Added Lew Leone, vice president and general manager, WWOR-TV and WNYW-TV: “For the past three years, My9 has been the broadcast home of the nation’s premiere baseball franchise. We are thrilled to be extending our partnership with the Yankees as the team begins an historic new era in the new Yankee Stadium.”
