WrestleMania XXVIII Sets New PPV, Gross Sales Marks
No fooling: WWE pinned down new buy rate and gross sales records for its latest iteration of WrestleMania.
The sports entertainment company reported that WrestleMania XXVIII from Sun Life Stadium in Miami on April 1 garnered 1.3 million PPV buys, with gross global sales, including the gate from the live event, totaling $67 million, according to preliminary estimates.
The event, which showcased the "Once in a Lifetime" match between John Cena and The Rock, eclisped the 1.18 million buys generated by WrestleMania XXIII, which featured Donald Trump.
This year's version of WrestleMania was seen around the world on pay-per-view in more than 105 countries and 20 languages. Sources close to the company indicate that U.S. PPV purchases typically represent about two-thirds of the overall PPV buys
Next year's event is slated for Sunday, April 7, 2013 at MetLife Stadium.
