Viacom Teams Up on India Channel
Viacom and TV18 Group plan to launch a new Hindi-language general-entertainment channel in India as part of a new joint venture announced at a press conference in Mumbai.
The JV, dubbed Viacom-18, will also incorporate MTV Networks’ local versions of MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon and TV18 Group’s movie-production division. There are plans to launch more niche channels from MTVN’s portfolio and from new brands. The JV will syndicate MTVN programming and new content.
TV18’s business news channels, CNBC-TV18 and CNBC Awaaz, are in partnership with NBC Universal; its general news channel, CNN-IBN, is a partnership with Time Warner; and IBN 7, its Hindi general news channel, is in partnership with the Jagran Group, which owns India's largest Hindi-language daily.
