Verizon notched its single biggest deal to date to connect fiber to urban apartments, announcing an agreement with the 12,271-unit Parkchester housing development in New York City to sell FiOS TV and Internet services to residents.
The telco will compete with Cablevision Systems in Parkchester, the largest privately owned condominium complex in the U.S. covering 129 acres in the northeast Bronx.
Verizon will start providing FiOS services to some residents by year-end and “in the near future” to all residents, under recently signed agreements with the two boards of directors of Parkchester.
Verizon spokesman Bill Kula said the telco does not have exclusive video provider rights for Parkchester but that it does have exclusive marketing rights for the approximately 4,000 apartments in the northern part of the complex.
Elsewhere in New York City, Verizon has a deal to offer FiOS services in the Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village complexes in lower Manhattan, which have a total of 11,232 apartments.
Nationwide, Verizon FiOS services are now available to more than 870,000 apartments in 16 states and Washington, D.C.
