Two months after winning a video franchise in Hempstead, N.Y., Verizon Communications Inc. began taking orders Thursday for FiOS TV in the Long Island town of 800,000.
It’s one of the largest launches to date for FiOS TV. Verizon will compete with Cablevision Systems in Hempstead.
Verizon said it began taking FiOS TV orders in parts Hempstead’s unincorporated villages of Baldwin, Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick, North Merrick, Roosevelt, Seaford and Wantagh.
The telco is marketing a $95 monthly package that includes FiOS TV, FiOS Internet and Verizon Freedom Values unlimited calling plan. As a standalone service, FiOS TV costs $39.95 monthly.
