Verizon FiOS Throws Out First Pitch on VOD HD Yankees, Mets Games

For Big Apple area fans who miss or want to relive the Opening Day action for the Bronx Bombers and the Amazins, Verizon FiOS has you covered -- in HD.
Verizon FiOS TV subscribers in the New York metro area can now watch Yankees and Mets games on the telco's video on demand platform in the high-definition format for free.
As part of separate agreements with the regional sports networks YES Network and SNY, Verizon FiOS subscribers in New York City, Long Island, the northern suburbs, the mid-Hudson area, and northern and central New Jersey will be able to access the games on the FiOS1 Local Zone folder in the free video on demand category. VOD can be found on the FiOS Main Menu function.

With the agreements with the RSNs, financial terms of which were not disclosed, Verizon FiOS says it is now the only TV provider in the New York metro area to offer Mets and Yankees games and the networks' other content in HD on VOD. Verizon FiOS has provided the baseball games and other SNY and YES programming in standard-definition over the past four years.
The first HD VOD games available will stem from SNY's coverage of he Mets opener against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday April 5, and YES's April 6 telecast of the Yankees game against the Tampa Rays.
In addition to the games, other popular YES Network and SNY fare also will be provided in HD in the FiOS1 Local Zone folder.
"Our subscribers can't get enough of the hometown Yankees and Mets," said Orlando Martinez, Verizon director of FiOS1 sports content, in announcing the service addition. "By giving them the ability to watch our crystal-clear, high-definition broadcasts of their favorite baseball teams on their own time, or as a replay, we're providing more entertainment value and greater choice.
