Univision, Disney Junior Play With Saturday-Morning Block

Univision’s “Planeta U” Saturday-morning block of children’s programming has added two Disney Junior shows to its lineup.

The 30-minute Mickey Mouse Clubhouse will air at 8 a.m. (and again at 8:30), while Handy Manny will air at 9 and 9:30 a.m.  Univision will be the exclusive home for the Spanish-dubbed versions of both shows.

Disney Junior offers the shows in Spanish via SAP. However, the channel is an expanded basic offering on most cable and DBS services, limiting its total potential Hispanic audience.

“We are proud to add Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Handy Manny to our ‘Planeta U’ children’s programming block,” Alberto Ciurana, president of programming and content at Univision Communications, said. “Adding these two exceptionally regarded shows to our lineup speaks to our commitment to deliver high quality, educational programming to our younger audience.”

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Handy Manny have proven popular with our preschool viewers and their parents around the world,” Nancy Kanter, executive vice president of Original Programming and GM of Disney Junior Worldwide, added. “We are delighted to introduce these Disney Junior series to a new audience of preschoolers and their families on Univision’s ‘Planeta U.’”

Planeta U’s lineup also includes El Chavo Animado, a cartoon version of legendary Spanish-language sitcom El Chavo de Ocho, and La Famila P. Luche, the Eugenio Derbez-helmed sitcom from the early 2000s.
