Jinni announced that Time Warner Cable and Walmart’s Vudu over-the-top service are among the latest companies to license its “mood-based” video-discovery platform.
The Israeli startup said it landed seven new agreements in the fourth quarter of 2012.
“We are delighted to welcome all of our new partners on board,” Jinni co-founder and CEO Yosi Glick said. “The industry has recognized that consumers want new and innovative ways to discover content… These new partners are fellow TV experience innovators and are therefore natural partners.”
Jinni touts its taste-and-mood based video-discovery system as providing an "intuitive and personalized experience" based on keywords associated with content (such as "bleak," "witty," or "suspenseful") that are matched with user preferences.
Separately, Time Warner Cable announced last week that it will expand its use of Digitalsmiths' video search and recommendation platform to span traditional set-tops as well as its TWC TV multiscreen apps.
In addition to TWC and Vudu, Jinni announced deals with European providers Bouygues Telecom and Nordic pay TV provider C More Entertainment (formerly CANAL+); Singapore-based SingTel; and Multichoice, a South African pay TV provider. Jinni previously announced deals with Belgium’s Belgacom and Spain’s Prisa TV.
Jinni, based in Tel Aviv, Israel, has raised $7.5 million to date from investors including DFJ Tamir Fishman Ventures Ltd and Belgacom.
