TVN Entertainment Corp. Monday announced the launch of a new on-demand service called The Karaoke Channel.
TVN is creating the channel with Sound Choice, which provides karaoke-music tracks and equipment.
The service will launch with 300-500 songs. Genres include pop, modern rock, classic rock, country, R&B, hip-hop, oldies, standards, show tunes and specialty.
TVN will handle encoding and transport and make the content available to cable systems in the United States and Canada. TVN envisions that the offer will be offered free or via subscription-video-on-demand.
TVN said numerous smaller MSOs have already signed up for the service, including Advanced Communications, Armstrong Cable Services, Bend Broadband, Blue Ridge Cable, Buckeye CableSystem, Champion Broadband, Click Networks, Muscatine, Shrewsbury, Sunflower Broadband and Wave Broadband, as well as Verizon Communications Inc.
