TiVo Marketing Chief Joins Touch-Feedback Firm

TiVo chief marketing officer Clent Richardson has been named president and CEO of Immersion, a developer of touch-feedback technology.

San Jose, Calif.-based Immersion said Richardson’s appointment will be effective April 28.

Richardson’s stint at TiVo lasted less than eight months. Richardson previously headed marketing at Nortel Networks, and also has worked at Apple and T-Mobile UK.

In a statement, TiVo said, "Clent's departure from TiVo was an amicable one, and we have a strong team in place to implement the firm's marketing initiatives."

Last month, TiVo CEO Tom Rogers said the DVR company will “maintain our more limited spend on marketing while we assess the speed with which consumers recognize the value and importance of broadband distribution of digital video.”

For the quarter ended Jan. 31, TiVo spent $7.2 million on marketing activities related to subscriber acquisition, down 27% from the $9.9 million in the same period a year earlier.

Founded in 1993, Immersion develops and licenses “touch-enabling technologies” for consumer gaming peripherals, mobile communications and portable devices, audio-video entertainment systems in automobiles and other products. Its patent portfolio includes over 700 issued or pending patents in the U.S. and other countries.
