Time Warner Cable Rolls Guide Upgrade In Central N.Y., Charlotte

Time Warner Cable has upgraded the on-screen TV guide for customers in Central New York and Charlotte, N.C., which includes enhanced navigation, "cloud-based" VOD search features and a new color scheme.

The new guide's design and color scheme is meant to match the look of the operator's TWC TV apps and website.

The MSO first deployed the upgraded guide earlier in June to customers in Syracuse and its Central New York region, followed by Charlotte. "We will be launching this in other markets, but are not specifying timing at this point," a TWC spokesman said.

The guide is the Time Warner Cable-developed OCAP Digital Navigator (ODN), which runs on the CableLabs' tru2way specification for interactive TV.

With the new guide, pressing "A" button on the Time Warner Cable remote control brings up "Find Channels," which lets subscribers find their programming by category. The "B" button pulls up a search screen to let users search by keyword across TV listings and VOD. The VOD poster art and search features are delivered over the network in a "cloud" architecture, according to the MSO.

The upgraded guide also includes on-screen prompts for using digital TV features like Start Over and Look Back.

"Our new guide is designed to help our digital TV customers enjoy all the programming they receive from Time Warner Cable better," Terence Rafferty, Time Warner Cable regional vice president of Northeast operations, said in a statement. "This upgraded guide makes it easy for customers to find the content they want, whether it's on one of the hundreds of digital TV channels we offer, or a movie or program available anytime via Time Warner Cable On Demand."

TWC provides more information about the enhanced guide and its features at www.timewarnercable.com/guide. Not all of the operator's set-tops support the new guide.
