Time Warner Cable Austin’s Kinney Honored

Tom Kinney, president of Time Warner Cable’s Austin (Texas) division, will receive Time Warner Inc.’s second annual “Civic Leadership Award,” recognizing various employee-driven volunteer initiatives in the division.

Kinney was involved in creating employee volunteer teams that engaged with nonprofit organizations and rallies employees to get involved, the company said. One-third of Time Warner Cable employees in Austin are active volunteers, and one-half of the senior staff serves on nonprofit boards.

Kinney also established a grant program to support nonprofit organizations where employees volunteer, and he put in place a “Time to Read” tutoring/mentoring program at which employee and community volunteers help learners to improve their reading skills.

And the Austin division launched several innovative events and projects to benefit local communities, earning recognition by the United Way as a “Pace-Setter” for employee voluntarism and by the Urban League as “Corporation of the Year.”

Time Warner also announced 13 winners of “Andrew Heiskell Community Service Awards”for volunteer efforts throughout the company, to be presented at a ceremony in New York Wednesday.
