ShortsHD Debuts On DirecTV

Continuing to build its distribution base in the U.S., ShortsHD will debut on DirecTV on Cinco de Mayo.
Short movie entertainment purveyor Shorts International reached a pact with the No. 1 DBS provider to offer ShortsHD to its customers who subscribe to the HD Extra Pack on channel 568. Moreover, a variety of the most popular shorts will be accessible through a dedicated video-on-demand service on channel 1568. Deal terms were not disclosed.
The network, which is also available in the States via AT&T U-verse and Dish Network, proffers a new premiere nightly, through an expansive catalogue, featuring Academy Award-winners, high-quality CGI animation, international film festival awardees and cinematic gems from around the globe. Short movies are scheduled into 30- and 60-minute themed windows such as comedies, musicals, documentaries, thrillers, dramas and animation.
London-based Shorts International recently gained exposure in the U.S., working with Movies On Demand to bring the"Oscar Nominated Shorts 2011"to VOD.
It also makes its products available through the iTunes store
With the rollout on DirecTV, ShortsHD is now available to over 40 million homes worldwide, including distribution in France, Belgium, Turkey and Luxembourg.
"Short Films are growing in popularity and we are excited to help increase the visibility for this great art form, while also giving our customers even more quality HD programming to choose from," said Toby Berlin, vice president programming acquisitions at DirecTV in a statement.
