SES: AMC-18 Is Operational

SES Americom said its AMERICOM-18 satellite completed a full battery of in-orbit-tests and is now operational from its assigned orbital location of 105 degrees West.

The bird is an all C-band satellite, designed to offer full North American coverage including all 50 U.S. states, the Caribbean and Mexico, joining AMC-1 at 103 degrees west and AMC-4 at 101 degrees West.

It launched Dec. 8.

“The timing of the operational readiness of AMC-18 and the expansion of the HD-PRIME neighborhood is perfectly synchronized with the growing demand for more bandwidth to distribute new high-def channels,” SES Americom president of media services Bryan McGuirk said in a prepared statement.
