SBE West Conference Canceled

The SBE 2007 West conference that was to start in Reno today was cancelled, on short notice, stranding at least some potential attendees of this attempted extension of the Satellite & Broadband Expo.

A notice on the three-day conference’s Web site said, “Due to circumstances beyond our control, SBE 2007 West has been canceled. Registered attendees and exhibitors please check your email for further information.”

Scott Greczkowski, who operates the Web site Satelliteguys.us, reported the cancellation on his blog on Multichannel.com yesterday after getting the notice from the conference founder.

Reached by phone in Reno today, he said he and several other people who are active in the Satelliteguys online forum had pre-paid their hotel and airfare, so they trekked in anyway. (For Greczkowski, that meant getting up at 3:45 a.m. for a 5:45 a.m. flight from Connecticut.) He said they planned to put together some kind of networking event on their own, possibly with vendors who also ventured to Reno.

The conference was canceled on Tuesday, Greczkowski said, so some people were already in transit and didn’t get the cancellation notice.

The annual Satellite & Broadband Expo was last held in April in Atlanta.
