S-A Extends Overlay Tactic
Time Warner Cable has implemented a Scientific-Atlanta Inc. overlay in three national-division markets: St. Augustine, Fla.; Terre Haute, Ind.; and Clarksburg, W. Va., which serve 90,000 subscribers combined.
The moves follow Time Warner's rollout of S-A's overlay strategy in Houston, a Motorola Inc. market.
The overlay strategy allows the MSO to deploy a variety of “Explorer” set-tops, including the digital-video-recorder and HD versions of “Explorer 8000.”
"Scientific-Atlanta's overlay technology offers cable operators a more robust platform that they can continue to build on for the future, as consumer demand for advanced digital-entertainment services continues to rise," S-A vice president and general manager of product strategy and development for subscriber networks Burchall Cooper said in a prepared statement.
"Time Warner Cable Houston has been very pleased with the results of the Scientific-Atlanta 8000 and 8000-HD DVR launch," Time Warner Cable Houston VP of information technology Edward Crawford said in a prepared statement. "Customers have been signing up for the new service at a rapid pace."
