RCN Lines Up CLTV, Chicagoland Television

RCN Corp. has added CLTV, Chicagoland Television news channel to its roster in the Second City.

The distributor launched CLTV, the 24-hour news channel, in Chicago on Oct. 15 on its systems serving Chicago's lakefront, including Lincoln Park, Lake View, Gold Coast, Streeterville, Rogers Park and Village of Skokie. It is available on channel 31.

Deal terms were not disclosed.

CLTV, which has served viewers in the Chicagoland area for more than 16 years, moved its operations to WGN-TV there in August, creating a shared newsroom with additional resources for covering stories of local importance. WGN News now programs more than 167 hours of news each week, 42 hours on WGN-TV and 125 hours on CLTV.

"We are excited to bring our mix of local breaking news, weather and award-winning feature programming to additional viewers throughout the city," said Steve Farber, CLTV general manager Steve Farber in a statement. Chicagoans can look forward to expanded coverage of major events, including the 2010 elections."

Noted RCN senior vice president of operations and Chicago general Mmanager Tom McKay: "Just recently, CLTV made their channel available to RCN and we moved quickly to add this popular regional news station. We're extremely pleased to offer our customers another news choice, one that provides specialty local programming."
