PVI Virtual Media Casts Tech Enhancement For WFN's Gulf Telethon

PVI Virtual Media Services has created an in-show graphic insertion for WFN: World Fishing Network's June 30 fundraising event to assist the fishing communities impacted by the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Renowned for football's virtual first down line, baseball's ads behind home plate and ice hockey's ads on the glass, PVI will utilize its Virtual Program Enhancement product to create an in-show graphic insertion during WFN: World Fishing Network's Gulf Oil Spill Relief Telethon on Wednesday, June 30 at 8 p.m. (ET). Throughout the day, WFN will direct viewers to donate to the WFN Fisherman's Fund, (www.wfn.tv/donate), which supports the FishAmerica Foundation's Gulf Fund in support of Gulf Coast restoration efforts, and the Venice Charter Boat and Guide Association.

PVI's product will deliver a call-to-action message to WFN's viewers, without interrupting the show. On-screen viewers will see the programming squeeze back to reveal a Web address to donate to the Telethon.

"PVI has been at the forefront of nearly every major new graphic insertion technology to enhance the viewing experience for consumers of major sports and entertainment events," said Jay DiGiovanni, senior vice president and general manager of PVI, in a statement. "The show enhancements we are providing to WFN illustrate the first of several in-program advanced technologies PVI is creating for programmers, delivering a more engaged viewer and a unique sales proposition."

To ensure that as many customers as possible can participate in the 24-hour fundraising initiative, five TV providers -- Comcast, Charter, AT&T U-verse, Knology and Dish Network, are offering free previews of WFN and/or WFN HD from June 28 to 30.
