OWN Taps Comcast's Singer As Multiplatform Distribution Chief

OWN:The Oprah Winfrey Network has hired Allan Singer to head its distribution efforts.

Singer, who had been serving as senior vice president of content acquisition for Comcast, will lead OWN's content distribution and sales strategy. Based in Los Angeles, Singer starts his new job on Nov. 2.

"OWN is a 21st century multimedia brand with a passionate audience who expects more from their television experience," OWN CEO Christina Norman, to whom Singer will report, said in a statement.  "Allan's expertise will ensure OWN's content is available to viewers on every platform. At launch OWN will be in more than 70 million homes, and he will be instrumental in creating and building our relationship with our affiliate partners."

Singer began working at Comcast began in 2003 as senior vice president of programming Investments, managing the expansion of Comcast's network portfolio, including the acquisition of TechTV and the successful launches of TV One, Comcast SportsNet Chicago, Comcast SportsNet West, SNY and PBS Kids Sprout.

In 2006, Singer's focus was moved to Comcast's sports division as senior vice president of sports business development. Until recently, he served as senior vice president of content acquisition for Comcast Cable.

Previously, Singer was senior vice president of programming at AT&T Broadband and president of Satellite Services Inc., where he managed content acquisition and carriage of networks, as well as negotiated rights acquisitions with content providers for the then-largest cable company.
