Media and cable industry veteran Lou Borelli has been named chief marketing officer of NimbleTV.
Borelli, who is among the investors in the cloud-based platform that ports subscription television to any device, will oversee all aspects of NimbleTV's marketing, including communications, strategy and business development. Borrelli will report to NimbeTV CEO Anand Subramanian.
Borelli's career has included stints as president and CEO of NEP Broadcasting, senior vice president , broadband at America Online and executive vice president and COO of Marcus Cable, the MSO that was purchased by Paul Allen and became part of the Microsoft co-founder's rapid expansion of Charter Communications.
Borrelli joined NimbleTV as an advisor and investor in 2011. Other financial backers for the service include Tribune Co., whose holdings include 23 TV stations, and venture capital firms Greycroft Partners and Tribeca Venture Partners.
The game plan calls for NimbleTV to sign up for satellite or cable TV service on behalf of its customers, and then manages the installation of set-top boxes at a physical location somewhere in a given market. The company will re-encodes the signals to deliver live TV or DVR recordings over the Internet, to wherever the customer may be. In addition to their monthly cable or satellite TV bill, customers would pay an additional monthly fee -- of about $20 -- to NimbleTV.
"With his deep industry experience and knowledge, Lou has been a valued advisor to NimbleTV as the company has gone from idea to beta testing, and I'm thrilled he's joining the company as its Chief Marketing Officer," said Mr. Subramanian. "Lou has a keen understanding of the TV industry -- past, present and future -- and will play a pivotal role in helping NimbleTV execute its vision to offer customers real choice, and easier and better access to their subscription TV."
Said Mr. Borrelli: "This is a time of incredible innovation for the television industry and is fast emerging as a great time to be a TV customer. NimbleTV is about making ‘TV Everywhere' more than just a slogan, and I'm looking forward to joining the team in order to help make that vision a reality."
