NDS Hires Spear To Head Jungo Middleware Sales In North America

NDS tapped David Spear, previously an executive with voice-over-IP technology vendors IPgallery and Cedar Point Communications, to lead North American sales for its Jungo residential home gateway middleware subsidiary.

Spear joined Jungo as vice president and general manager North America in December. He is based in Indianapolis, though he added he "will be on the road a lot."

Major Jungo customers include Verizon Communications, BT, France Telecom, Telecom Italia and NTT Communications. According to Jungo, the company's middleware has been deployed in about 35 million gateways worldwide.

NDS completed the acquisition of Israel-based Jungo Software Technologies in January 2007. NDS paid $90.5 million in cash for Jungo, which had 140 employees at the time.

Jungo's product offerings include the OpenRG middleware platform and Panorama, a remote management system for customer premises equipment for cable and telecom service providers.
