MTV2 to Help Cox Promote High-Speed Data

Cox Communications Inc. and MTV Networks’ MTV2 are teaming up to customize local MTV2 on-air programming with information connecting viewers to local Cox.net portals, the MSO said Wednesday.

The operator’s local portals will lead MTV2 viewers to local music sites with rich broadband content best viewed with high-speed connections, which Cox hopes will help it to acquire new Cox High Speed Internet subscribers.

The local, customized MTV2 programming will feature a combination of local video, local crawls and local concert calendars. Online, the network will create and maintain the local Web sites that are accessed through the Cox.net sites at music.cox.net.

“This is a real win for both companies and a natural for Cox as we continue to look for new ways to enhance the value of our service bundle, while also cross-pollinating single-service customers to other Cox services,” Cox High Speed Internet vice president of product management and marketing Steve Gorman said in a prepared statement.

MTV2 general manager David Cohn added, “Partnering with Cox is a great way for us to give music fans and MTV2 viewers extended content on multiple platforms, getting them closer to the music and artists they love, right on a local level.”
