MTV Networks Nabs Quizilla

MTV Networks acquired Quizilla (quizilla.com), an online user-generated community of original teen authors ages 14 and older.

Formerly owned by Gorilla Nation Media, the four-year-old Web site serves as a venue for fiction, nonfiction, poetry, polls and other content created by the authors.

Quizilla drew 3.1 million unique visitors in September, according to comScore Media Metrix, and it is a top-five online destination for female teens.

The site will join The N’s Web site (www.the-n.com) and Neopets (www.neopets.com) in the digital portfolio of MTVN Kids and Family. MTVN plans to combine Quizilla and The-N.com’s The Click embedded video player to provide a multiplatform experience.

“This marks another great step forward with our strategy of continuing to transform MTVN into a global, multiplatform entertainment company that engages our diverse audiences wherever, whenever and however they want,” MTVN chairman and CEO Judy McGrath said in a prepared statement.

The Quizilla purchase comes on the heels of the network’s acquisitions of Shockwave.com (www.shockwave.com) and AddictingGames.com (addictinggames.com) in August (www.multichannel.com/article/CA6361267.html).

Nickelodeon has also launched parent-targeted Web site ParentsConnect.com (www.parentsconnect.com, www.multichannel.com/article/CA6373209.html) and kids’ video site TurboNick 2.0 (www.multichannel.com/article/CA6378114.html), which has averaged 19 million streams per week.
