MTV Launches VMA Competition

MTV announced a global competition based on its 2006 MTV Video Music Awards.

The 23rd-annual VMAs will take place Thursday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. (EST/PST) from Radio City Music Hall in New York.

MTV will hold its "Global MTV VMA '06 Video Diary Competition" on-air and online starting July 26 across 25 networks channels reaching 90 countries in Africa, the Asia-Pacific region, Canada, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East, the programmer said.

A total of 25 pairs of winners will receive VIP tickets to the 2006 VMAs; round-trip flights to New York from American Airlines; three nights at the Chelsea Savoy Hotel; an excursion at the new "Top of the Rock" observation deck at Rockefeller Center; dinner at Tony's DiNapoli Times Square Restaurant; a tour of The Museum of Modern Art; all on-the-ground transportation; and $300 in spending money.

Also, while in New York, the winners will film their own video diaries of their VMA experience, and the footage they shoot will be used on local MTV Web sites and broadband services.
