Microsoft Makes IPTV Splash at IBC

published Microsoft Corp. announced a series of support partnerships for its Internet-protocol-TV software at the International Broadcasting Convention, including Cisco Systems Inc.’s Linksys unit’s KiSS Technology A/S, Motorola Inc., Scientific-Atlanta Inc., Tatung Co. and Thomson S.A., all IPTV set-top-box makers.
Microsoft also said it was working with semiconductor suppliers to introduce new system-on-a-chip products for IPTV set-tops. The first announced partner is Sigma Designs Inc., which Microsoft said has developed a chip capable of delivering multiple channels of HD video.
