Mediacom Communications Corp. has agreed to a new long-term affiliation deal with all of Turner Broadcasting System Inc.’s cable channels, officials at the cable operator said Monday.
The new agreement provides for analog and digital carriage of Cable News Network, CNN Headline News, TBS Superstation, Turner Network Television, Cartoon Network, TCM, Turner South, Boomerang, CNNfn and CNN International.
Time Warner Inc. is TBS Inc.’s parent company.
Mediacom senior vice president of programming and human resources Italia Commisso Weinand said in an interview that the MSO was close to completing its lengthy process of renegotiating long-term deals with programming suppliers.
The process began after Mediacom completed its acquisition of about 800,000 customers from AT&T Broadband in late 2001.
"I’m able to announce that after our six-month goal of getting it done, two-and-a-half years later, 90% of our agreements have been negotiated," said Weinand, who is due to be honored Tuesday at the "Wonder Women" luncheon sponsored by Multichannel News and the New York chapter of Women in Cable & Telecommunications.
The deals, she added, often encompass retransmission consent for broadcast channels, high-definition rights and other factors. "We’re very proud of that," she said.
Notable new deals reached during that time were with Fox Cable Networks Group in 2002 and with MTV Networks this past January.
