May Lands at Calpine

Former Charter Communications Inc. interim CEO Bob May has been named to head up San Jose, Calif.-based power company Calpine Corp.

May had served as interim CEO at Charter from January-August, when he was replaced by former America Online Inc. Access Business president Neil Smit.

May will become CEO of Calpine and a member of its board of directors. He succeeds acting CEO Kenneth Derr, who will continue serving as chairman.

Calpine owns, leases and operates natural gas-fired and geothermal power plants in 21 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces. The company is building a plant in Mexico.

Before Charter, May had served as nonexecutive chairman of HealthSouth Corp. from July 2004-October 2005 and chief operating officer of Cablevision Systems Corp. from 1996-98.
