MASN, Charter Play Ball

Charter Communications Inc. has agreed to carry Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, the cable home of Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals.

RCN Corp. and direct-broadcast satellite provider DirecTV Inc. carried MASN during the Nationals’ inaugural season, but the regional sports network has yet to reach an accord with Comcast Corp.

Comcast’s lawsuit against MLB’s Baltimore Orioles -- in which the MSO tried to block that club from moving its games to MASN in 2007 -- was thrown out of Montgomery County (Md.) Circuit Court in July.

“We applaud Charter for being responsive to their customers and are pleased that Charter will be carrying Nationals games during the 2006 season,” MASN executive vice president and general manager Bob Whitelaw said in a prepared statement.
