A breast-cancer bill backed by Lifetime Television’s “Stop Breast Cancer for Life” advocacy campaign was introduced in Washington, D.C., Tuesday.
Sens. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) and Mary L. Landrieu (D-La.) and Reps. Sue Kelly (R-N.Y.) and Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.) introduced the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act of 2005, which “would improve access to second opinions, lumpectomy, radiation therapy and inpatient care so that women are not forced to undergo medically unnecessary mastectomies or settle for insufficient treatment,” the network said.
“Lifetime is so proud to stand with Sens. Snowe and Landrieu and Reps. Kelly and DeLauro on this important issue that allows women and doctors, not insurance companies, the ability to decide when women are ready to go home following major breast-cancer surgery,” Lifetime Entertainment Services executive vice president Meredith Wagner said in a prepared statement.
“Our viewers have been calling for this legislation to be passed for nearly 10 years,” she added. “It’s time for Congress to act, and I’m confident that with this incredible bipartisan effort, it finally will.”
