Liberty Global Picks SeaChange Back Office For 'Horizon' VOD

Liberty Global Inc. will use SeaChange International's Adrenalin multiscreen video back-office and client publishing system for its rollout of the Horizon next-generation TV service later this year.

Horizon, which LGI debuted at IBC in Amsterdam earlier this month, blends cable TV, Web and personal content, offering subscribers the ability to access content from multiple devices and providing an open platform for apps on the TV. Liberty Global is deployed Adrenalin to automate Horizon's video-on-demand television offering.

SeaChange already provides a range of video back office and multiscreen software solutions for Liberty Global systems in Europe, including UPC Netherlands, UPC Cablecom (Switzerland) and UPC Poland and, in Latin America, for Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico and VTR in Chile. Liberty Global's systems also leverage SeaChange Professional Services for systems planning, integration and deployment.

"We selected SeaChange software and services as a key contributor to the overall Horizon experience. The Adrenalin system helps us deliver our multi-screen video offering seamlessly to our customers," said Ryc Brownrigg, Vice President Digital Technology at Liberty Global.

Following current field trials, LGI expects to launch Horizon commercially at UPC in the Netherlands later this year to be followed closely by launches at UPC Cablecom in Switzerland and Unitymedia in Germany.

The Adrenalin software is built around SeaChange's previous Axiom On Demand platform, incorporating Web-centric features and scalable support for up to 20 million subscribers and 100 million assets. The company said Adrenalin has been deployed by seven operators worldwide since its launch in October 2010.
