La. Bill Faces Local Opposition
published
Louisiana mayors met with Gov. Kathleen Blanco in an effort to convince her to veto legislation, recently approved by the state legislature, which would enable statewide franchising for new video competitors.
The mayors were joined by members of the Police Jury Association of Louisiana, the trade group for parish governments in the state.
The local officials believe cable regulation is most effective when authorities are closer to the end-users. The new bill would assign oversight to the Secretary of State.
Blanco has until July 10 to make up her mind on the bill. If she does not act by that date, the bill automatically becomes law.
