Gospel Music Creates New WAP Site

Gospel Music Channel’s online unit is creating a new mobile Web site designed to deliver content to cell phones.

The Web site for Gospel Music Channel has joined with uVuMobile to create and launch the WAP site. Users can reach the site by going to www.gmcmobile.tv from any Web/WAP capable mobile phone, where they can access many of the features from gospelmusicchannel.com, including news, reviews, exclusive articles, and daily programming schedules. Moreover, those with phones that support video streaming can access exclusive news and music videos right from their handset.

For its part, GospelMusicChannel.com recorded a 300% gain in usage and more than doubled its number of unique visitors, year-to-date, according to network officials, who cited Google data.

The growth, according to network officials, can be attributed to a new editorial team, which has introduced  such new features as a high-definition video player for exclusive HD viewing of streamed videos from gospel/Christian artists and programming from GMC; more extensive video, including GMC Insider news segments, behind-the-scenes footage, exclusive interviews, music videos, and special on-location reports; a free, weekly opt-in e-mail newsletter with news, programming updates and free MP3 downloads; reviews of the top gospel and Christian albums before they hit the streets; extensive bonus material from GMC programming, including videos, blogs, photos and other content not seen on television, and more.

“The recent enhancements to our digital offerings are a key component of our ongoing commitment to be the leading source for gospel/Christian music fans online and now from their mobile phones,” said GMC vice president of digital media Philip Manwaring in a statement. “We’re excited by and thankful for the strong reception they’ve given us and the resulting growth in our audience. We have an incredible roadmap of new features coming in the months ahead and are looking forward to continuing to earn the right to serve our audience as their one-stop gospel/Christian music source each day.”
