ECI Buys Laurel, Bolsters IP Portfolio

ECI Telecom Ltd. has bolstered its Internet-protocol-product portfolio with the $88 million purchase of Laurel Networks Inc.

Laurel provides next-generation IP/MPLS (multiprotocol label switching) multiservice-edge routers, used for IPTV.

Laurel said sales for its edge routers reached $18 million for the 12 months ending April 30. Customers included Level 3 Communications Inc., Korea’s KT Corp. and Dacom Corp.

In other IPTV news, Brooktrout Technology Inc. announced a partnership with Radvision Ltd., which incorporates Brooktrout’s “SnowShore IP Media Server” and Radvision’s “Scopia” advanced video-services platform.

The companies said the combination will allow telcos to offer IP-video services over circuit-switched, hybrid or packet-network architectures.

Services could include audio and video telephony and conferencing; video mail and video messaging; and interactive-multimedia-content streaming.
