EchoStar Communications’ Dish Network customers will be able to use Green Dot Financial Network, which has outlets at retailers across the country, to pay for their direct-broadcast satellite service, officials said Monday.
By EchoStar and Green Dot teaming up, Dish and its DishNOW! cash customers will be able to pay for their satellite-TV service using Green Dot MoneyPaks, which are available at tens of thousands of Green Dot Financial Network locations nationwide, including retailers such as Rite Aid, Walgreens, RadioShack and CVS/pharmacy.
A Green Dot MoneyPak is a way to convert physical cash to electronic cash, which can then be used to reload a prepaid card, make a payment, pay a bill or add cash to any account that accepts Green Dot MoneyPak.
Dish customers purchase a Green Dot MoneyPak and load a dollar amount onto it. Customers then simply call Dish and select "pay with Green Dot MoneyPak" to pay their bill or load a DishNOW! prepaid satellite-system card.
Programming available through Dish’s prepaid-card program includes America's Top 100, America's Top 200, America's Top 250, America's Everything Pack and all DishLATINO packages, as well as international programming and premium channels.
"Tens of millions of Americans don't have access to credit cards, debit cards or bank accounts, either by necessity or by choice. The Green Dot MoneyPak provides these customers with a ubiquitous, convenient and affordable way to pay for their Dish Network service," said Mark Troughton, Green Dot’s president for cards and networks.
