EchoStar Enrolls in ESPNU

Continuing its recent sports-programming foray, EchoStar Communications Corp. has added ESPNU to the Dish Network lineup.

Positioned on channel 148, the 24-hour college-sports service is available as part of Dish’s “America Top 180.”

An ESPN spokeswoman said that with in concert with the Dish deal, terms of which were not disclosed, ESPNU now counts some 7.5 million subscribers through pacts with DirecTV Inc. (sports pack, channel 609), Mediacom Communications Corp., Adelphia Communications Corp. and several smaller MSOs. ESPNU tipped off last March.

Earlier this month, EchoStar reached an accord with NFL Network, adding it to Dish’s “America’s Top 120” programming package, and with College Sports Television, which now resides on channel 152 on the America’s Top 180 suite.

In July, EchoStar added Paul Allen’s Sporting News TV to its interactive-TV lineup.
