Internet-service provider EarthLink is getting into the TV business, in a way, through a deal to resell TiVo’s Series2 digital-video recorders with EarthLink-branded dial-up, broadband or digital-voice services.
Financial terms of the agreement weren’t disclosed. EarthLink said it will begin marketing the bundle later this year, but it didn’t announce expected pricing.
EarthLink doesn’t offer linear TV programming, but it will let subscribers download video over broadband connections using TiVo’s various Internet delivery services, including the recently announced Amazon Unbox on TiVo. The TiVo Series2 will provide DVR functions when connected to a cable or satellite operator’s service.
The companies suggested that in the future, EarthLink subscribers who use the TiVo service could obtain additional content over their broadband connections.
