DirecTV Contractor Charged with Rape

A DirecTV Inc. subcontractor has been charged with raping an 18-year-old woman in her Long Island, N.Y., home during a service call, according to the Nassau County police department.

Kevin Houston, 29, of Hempstead, N.Y., was arrested and charged with first-degree rape and a first-degree criminal sexual act for the alleged incident Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment Wednesday, where he was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond or $50,000 cash bail.

Houston works for Mobil Pro, a subcontractor that installs DirecTV service, and isn’t employed by the satellite provider, according to DirecTV spokesman Darris Gringeri. He's worked for Mobil Pro for five months.

While on a service call to the woman’s home in Uniondale, N.Y., Houston allegedly entered her bedroom and sexually assaulted her, according to a press release from the Nassau County police. The woman was brought to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y., where she was treated and released.

Mobil Pro immediately suspended Houston pending the results of the police investigation, and the subcontractor company plans to fully cooperate with police, according to DirecTV.

Newsday reported that the alleged victim reported the incident to DirecTV, and that the satellite provider then contacted Houston and asked him to turn himself in. But the New York Post wrote that it was police detectives who contacted DirecTV officials, which told them that Houston was the repairman who had been at the woman’s home.
